Why Grow Shiitake Mushrooms on Container Farms?

Reason why the produce in the container is shiitake mushrooms.

Container greenhouse business investments grow shiitake mushrooms as a product, but theoretically it is possible to produce products other than shiitake mushrooms.

We chose shiitake mushrooms among many other agricultural products because they were the most suitable for offering container farms as a product to our customers.

Here we pick up the reasons why.

Reasons for choosing shiitake mushrooms

1. Stable prices due to a stable supply market.

2. Production is declining due to a decrease in the number of farmers.

3. Because it is grown in greenhouses, production is not affected by the environment.

Reason 1: Stable supply market and therefore stable prices.

The shiitake mushroom market is stable, with prices ranging from 900~1,000 yen/kg throughout the year. The harvest volume has also remained stable at around 70,000 tons per year over the past 10 years, and has not fluctuated significantly. Since we return the proceeds from our shiitake mushroom sales to the container owners as rent, it is very important that prices are stable.

Reason 2: Production is declining due to a decrease in the number of farmers.

When looking at the market in the future, there is an overall trend of declining farmers, and shiitake production is not expected to increase significantly. Therefore, the market price is expected to remain stable in the future, without falling prices due to oversupply.

Reason 3: Production volume is not affected by the environment.

As long as the temperature and humidity are controlled, shiitake mushrooms can be harvested all year round, and their price remains stable throughout the year. With lettuce and other crops, however, harvest volume fluctuates greatly depending on weather conditions, and prices are unstable.
